DQ Entertainment Limited
Set up by Tapaas Chakravarti, a first-generation entrepreneur with substantial experience of international marketing and business management, DQ soon emerged as the largest 2D animation studio in India with orders from some of the leading studios in the world such as Disney, Warner Bros, DreamWorks SKG, Cartoon Network, and Method Films.
When True North invested in the company in July 2004, DQ was seeking to scale the 3D animation division by leveraging its established skills in 2D. As partner, True North worked closely with the management and developed templates for strengthening operational controls, built capability for benchmarking productivity, examined potential for new sources of revenues, and helped in setting-up high corporate governance standards.
With this, DQ scaled up its 3D and gaming divisions, successfully completed the pilot for a gaming project for Electronic Arts, and obtained significant business. Revenues and profits continued to grow steadily.
In a few years DQ was well structured and positioned for an IPO and it successfully listed on AIM in December 2007. True North divested its stake in DQ as a part of IPO.
